Dear friends, neighbors, and people in and around Jena,
With concern and anger, we have long been observing the continuities of fascism and racism in Germany. This is expressed in the generally heated and often hostile atmosphere towards migrant people, right-wing narratives as a response to real societal problems, as well as the results of past elections and the focus of the election campaigns on migration issues.
In response to the decision on the 5-point plan in the Bundestag and the vote on the Immigration Limitation Act, we called for a one-day vigil at Nonnenplan last week. We wanted to engage with you, listen, discuss, and talk together about options for action.
How can we take action against divisive attitudes and hateful rhetoric without relying on the actions of political parties? What perspective can offer us the possibility to truly shape our daily lives and coexistence?
We feel the urge to act—against fascism and racism, against hate and incitement, for a life together in solidarity!
✊🏻 That’s why we want to continue the concept and hold a vigil at Nonnenplan every day from February 20th to February 28th! ✊🏻
🤝🏻 🗣️ 🧑🤝🧑 The goal is to make it clear: There are ways beyond the participation opportunities of the federal elections! We want to listen to each other, exchange ideas, and find solutions together for the worries, fears, and problems that we and our friends face in our daily lives. We want to create a space where conversations and discussions can continue, and where events and opportunities for action can be referred to, as a democratic space beyond party politics. We want to make visible what is already happening in and around Jena. We are here and offer a space even after the elections—and with that, we set a clear sign—for togetherness, for a boundless future, for a solidarity-based coexistence! ✊🏻🌈 🕊️

If you want to support the vigil, feel free to bring a cake or a soup, or contribute your own ideas and projects for a communal and respectful life together—whether your choir wants to sing a song or you have a film recommendation you’d like to post. We welcome everyone who wants to take action!
